Strength and solidarity on our founding day: A photo essay

‘To deny people their human rights is to challenge their very humanity’

37 years committed to social transformation. To processes that help empower marginalised groups, and help them access lives of dignity, security and peace. As we neared our founding day in 2021, people we have engaged with over the decades across communities and cities shared their experience with YUVA and wishes to support us on the road ahead.

Youth associated with Anubhav Shiksha Kendra, an experiential learning programme, organised film screenings and discussions to share about YUVA’s work
Community members from Babu Basti, Dharmanagar and Carbon Gate in Guwahati shared their messages for YUVA
Homeless community members shared their messages for YUVA via posters, and discussed how our work has helped them access legal entitlements and welfare schemes in Mumbai
In Lallubhai Compound, Mankhurd, the children and youth collectives facilitated by YUVA set up an exhibition detailing the work in communities, and organised fun games and interactions too
In Nagpur, messages poured in from communities where we have worked to secure people’s access to habitat and livelihoods. From the credit cooperatives we have helped set up, to women’s economic empowerment that we have supported, community members discussed their journey with YUVA
In Navi Mumbai, we interacted with worker groups, children and youth, via discussions and games. We shared about our journey and recommitted to keep striving for people’s access to human rights
In Nalasopara, members of the community and post office officials joined us to share their journey and experiences with YUVA
In Vashi Naka, children shared about their dreams and aspirations and the role YUVA has played in nurturing these dreams and helping them access safer spaces. Street vendors joined us and shared their messages for YUVA

On YUVA Day (30 August 2021), we connected online and offline to reflect on how we have continued to work for social transformation over the decades. We shared what YUVA means to us, and our vision for YUVA @ 50!

We remain committed to our vision of a humane society, which sustains all human beings, as well as nature, where all people enjoy universal human rights.
