YUVA YOUTH WORK HIGHLIGHTS (2017 – 2022)
Youth-led change
YUVA’s Anubhav Shiksha Kendra is a unique youth-led and youth-centric initiative across districts of Maharashtra. Since 1993, this programme has pushed traditional boundaries, offering youth their foundational access to leadership and participation for governance accountability. Anubhav Shiksha Kendra has helped youth unpack the meanings of their external world, while enabling live examples of democracy, citizenship, secularism, gender and social justice. Participating youth have used their learnings to lead campaigns, research and advocacy efforts as confident, informed citizens, inspiring others to join them and strengthen the voice for change. Join the youth in co-creating an inclusive future.
Youth skilling and empowerment
Youth from marginalised communities often find it difficult to access opportunities for skill training, empowerment and employability. YUVA’s initiatives are designed to further youth exposure and access to programmes to build their skills, personality and enhance their employability potential. While livelihood oriented skill training helps the youth access employment, focus on their physical and emotional development helps them develop as conscientious citizens and future leaders. Youth participation in governance is also encouraged through a range of capacity building, exposure and advocacy initiatives.
Support our youth empowerment efforts via scholarships, support to life skills and capacity building sessions.
Youth rights based policy making
YUVA’s work with youth exposes us first-hand to the challenges and issues encountered by young people today. Our focus on youth rights awareness and capacity building is complemented by youth-led knowledge and insights generated, for improved policy making at the city, state and national levels. Youth across Maharashtra recently shared their suggestions on the draft National Youth Policy in 2022.
Narrative shifts on youth realities
As one of the world’s youngest countries, with 65 per cent of our population comprising people below 35 years of age, India’s youth represent an immense opportunity and potential. By investing in their development, we can create a better tomorrow. YUVA furthers youth development and empowerment in multiple ways. One way in which we hope to drive support for youth from marginalised communities is via curated experiences that increase dialogue among youth of diverse backgrounds. City walks and theatre devised by youth are effective ways to shift the narrative.
