The Basic Service Facilitation Centre were established with the aim to provide the urban poor with access to basic services and entitlements. Currently, YUVA runs 3 BSFCs in Mumbai, and one each on Indore, Guwahati and Bhubaneshwar.
Essentially, the BSFC ensures that the urban poor are able to secure their legal documentation (identity proof) that further enables them access to basic services, like health services, education services, water, street lights, roads, etc. It also includes the registration of informal workers towards social security, building financial inclusion, access to government schemes. In this manner the BSFC acts as an anchor for organising communities, educating them about their fundamental rights, laws, policies and schemes.
